For Next Day (Tuesday): NEW UNIT

Tuesday, Jan 23rd, 2018

Guiding Question/Big Idea:  Introduction to Genetics

  • Genetics Blog – potential blog prompts (try commenting on other people’s blogs):
    –  Genetic Screening is a growing industry – how does it work, what are some places you can get it done in Canada, and what are the potential implications of a company testing and owning your DNA?
    – Designer Babies – is it ethical to spend money to design your baby? Is there a line? How does potentially after the wealth gap?
    – Is there a genetic link to __________ (a topic of your choosing)? Why this topic?
    – CRISPR – what is it? What are potential uses and applications of it?
    – Other?

    • Alternative: vlog? Podcast? Watch a YouTube video by the vlogbrothers (it’s Hank and John Green) for inspiration – rubric would still be similarly fulfilled (asking thought-provoking questions while providing information) –  but I’d expect your video to probably be between 5-10 minutes long.
